Dream Hope Believe Foundation
The Dream Hope Believe Foundation / Brant Walton Memorial Fund is a memorial fund operated under the auspices of CharitySmith National Society of Memorial Funds. We are a 501(c)(3) organization able to accept tax-deductible donations in accordance with federal tax law and also have public charity status which allows for corporate matching of donations. The Fund seeks to raise money to provide grants to children and young people who have lost a parent to cancer. Grants can cover a wide variety of things, but examples would include daycare services, school costs or tuition, healthcare services, and many other things that a child may require. We raise funds through various endeavors and select grant applicants based on their individual needs and situations. Our approach is unique because unlike most charities where donations are made and the use of those funds is not always clear to the donors, we give our donors and sponsors the opportunity to have an active role in the selection process of grant recipients. Additionally, fully 100% of every dollar raised for the Foundation will be used for making grants. All operational, legal, marketing, etc costs are borne out of pocket by the Fund’s cofounders.
The inspiration for The Dream Hope Believe Foundation / Brant Walton Memorial Fund is the story of Brant Walton and his family. Shaheen Wirk was a classmate of Brant Walton who succumbed to rectal cancer at the age of 34 leaving behind his wife and young son. Andrea Jackson-Williams was so moved by Brant’s story that she wished to do something for children who found themselves in a similar situation. The resulting conversations between the founders coupled with our desire to do something about situations like this are the genesis, inspiration, and purpose of the Foundation. It is in Brant’s memory and honor that we endeavor. Should you be curious to learn more about Brant’s story and the separate efforts being undertaken for his family, we invite you to visit www.caringbridge.com/visit/brantwalton
The Foundation raises funds through various efforts, but the primary ones currently are private donations and athlete sponsorship in organized races. Andrea and others have chosen The Dream Hope Believe Foundation as their cause for which they will raise funds via their participation in the NYC Marathon and other similar events. If you are considering running a marathon, participating in a similar event, or just thinking about supporting a charity - we ask you to consider the Foundation as a cause you want to support. Additionally, if you wish to get involved but don’t know how to do so, we are happy to brainstorm together and help formulate a plan. Finally, as mentioned above the really unique and interesting thing about this Foundation will be your ability to participate in the selection process of the grant recipients. We think this is an empowering option that allows our donors to directly see the impact that they have on other people’s lives and to clearly understand the positive ways in which the funds are being used.
If you wish to learn more, want to get involved, or have any questions; please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you in advance for your time and support.
